Which CNC Router is Best for Woodworking

Which CNC Router is Best for Woodworking?

Wood CNC machine is a type of computer numerical controlled power tool for woodworking, which is mostly used in popular woodworking to take the place of manual actions. When you have an idea to buy it, you can follow the buying guide to find the best CNC machines for woodworking.

A wood CNC machine is composed of computer, CNC controller, and machine parts. It is designed and typeset through the special engraving software configured in the computer, and the design and typesetting information is automatically transmitted to the CNC controller by the computer. The controller converts this information into a signal (pulse train) with power that can drive a stepper motor or a servo motor, and controls the CNC machine to generate the X, Y, and Z axis tool path. At the same time, the high-speed spindle cuts the obeject fixed on the worktable of the machine through the tool configured according to the material. It directly supports G code formats generated by UG, ArtCAM, Type3, CorelDraw, Proe and other CAD/CAM software, and can make various flat or 3D designs of patterns and texts in the computer, and realize the automatic CNC machining operation.

How to Choose CNC Machine Tools for Woodworking?

1. Determine the main technical parameters of the CNC bit: The bit outer diameter, machining thickness, center aperture. Other technical parameters: number of tool teeth, rotation direction, rotation speed, feed speed, clamping method, tool tooth material.

2. Select the structure of the tool: According to the nature and requirements of the cutting object, the overall tool is selected from the two aspects of technology and economy, welding the overall tool, assembly tool and combined tool.

3. Selection of tool rotation direction: The bit rotation direction is determined according to the rotation direction of the CNC machine spindle and the relative position of the tool axis and the feed workpiece. Whether it is a whole tool or an assembled tool, the inclination of the cutting edge relative to the tool radius determines The direction of rotation of the bit.

4. Selection of CNC tool consumption: The cutting consumption of the tool includes the cutting speed of the tool, the feed speed of the workpiece and the milling depth. The cutting speed of the tool depends on the speed of the tool and the radius of the tool. The feed speed of the workpiece depends on the requirements of the cutting surface quality. The surface roughness of the workpiece to be cut depends largely on the tool feed per tooth during the cutting process. If the feed per tooth is too large, the machined surface is too rough, and the feed per tooth is too small, and the machined surface will be burnt. Phenomenon, so the feed per tooth of the tool must be appropriate.

5. Stability of tool operation: The stability of tool operation is the basis for ensuring machining accuracy and surface quality. This includes two aspects: one is that the tool vibrates due to external force excitation during cutting; the other is that the tool is deformed under the action of external force.

6. Safety of tool processing: The safety of tool processing includes the limitation of tool rotation speed, the limitation of chip thickness, the limitation of profile height of forming tool, and the limitation of thickness and extension of assembly tool blade.

Wood cutting is characterized by high-speed cutting, and the rotating speed of the tool is more than 3000rpm. High-speed cutting brings high production efficiency and smooth surface quality to wood cutting. At the same time, it also brings a series of safety issues. Therefore, when the spindle speed of the milling machine tool reaches 9000rpm, the use of assembled tools should be prohibited except for shank tools with tools less than 16mm. The weld seam of the overall tool should also be strictly Flaw inspection. Chip thickness limitation is a necessary measure to ensure that the tool feed is too large and causes serious tool overload.

For forming tools, the height value of the forming contour profile is closely related to the clamping method of the tool, the thickness of the cutting workpiece, and the diameter of the tool. After the workpiece thickness, tool diameter and central aperture are determined, the profile height of the tool reflects the strength and rigidity of the tool itself, as well as the ability to withstand cutting resistance. Therefore, the profile height must be limited to ensure the safety of the tool when it is used. The blade clamping problem must be considered when designing the assembled tool body. Whether it is a cylindrical blade or a disc blade, the blade clamping form must ensure that it can provide a large enough clamping force to resist the centrifugal force of rotation.

Buying Guide

1. The power of the motor is different, the larger the power, the more refined, so in the process of using it, you must see which type of handicraft you are making. If you want to make more delicate finished products, then you must choose high power. of. Of course, the price of a powerful CNC machine is naturally more expensive.

2. To understand the speed of the spindle motor, its speed is adjustable. When purchasing, if you find that the speed is not adjustable or the adjustable range is small, it is recommended not to choose it. Because in the process of use, it will affect the finished product.

FAQs

What Is A CNC Machine?

A CNC machine is an automated machine tool equipped with a CNC control system. The control system can logically process a program with a control code or other symbolic instructions, decode it, express it with coded numbers, and input it into the numerical control device through an information carrier. After arithmetic machining, the numerical control device sends out various control signals to control the action of the machine tool, and automatically process the parts according to the shape and size required by the drawing.

What Is The Best Wood For CNC Machining?

Some of the wood is soft and some are hard. Generally, the wood is soft and easy to carve, and the wood is heavy and hard to cut and carve. The tough wood, fine grain, and bright color are called hardwoods, such as mahogany, boxwood, rosewood, almond wood, nut wood, etc., which have all the advantages of machining, and are the finest materials for carving, suitable for machining complex structures and shapes. The delicate works are not easy to be broken and damaged during the production process and preservation, and have a high collection value, but they are more labor-intensive and easy to damage the bits. The looser wood is suitable for beginners, such as basswood, ginkgo, camphor, and pine. This kind of wood is suitable for cutting and carving works with a simple structure and a more general image. It is also easier to cut and carve, but because of its soft wood and weak color, some need coloring treatment to enhance the sense of volume. Some wood grains are more obvious and varied, such as fraxinus mandshurica, pine, fir wood, etc., you can skillfully use the smooth wood grain and the texture of the wood grain to make some more lyrical works. Generally speaking, the greater the ups and downs of the shape, the richer and more flavorful the wood grain changes; the more tactful and smooth the shape of the shape, the more ideal the effect of the wood grain direction, and even unexpectedly good-looking, rich decorative. Of course, the design of this kind of wood should be based on a high degree of generalization. Too complicated and too small will not only destroy the wood grain, but also cause visual contrast.

What Is A Wood CNC Machine Used For?

Wood CNC machine is a kind of numerical control power tool for milling wooden components. It has the characteristics of flexible use, fast speed, good quality and high work efficiency. It can process the edges of strip-shaped workpieces, can also groove and engrave the surface of the workpiece, and can also hollow out the workpiece. If the woodworking engraving machine is fixedly installed on the table, it can also process small and medium-sized wood decorative lines. CNC wood routers are widely used for hollowing, cutting, and carving of MDF, fiberboard, particle board, artificial synthetic board, cabinet doors, solid wood doors, craft wooden doors, paint-free doors, screens, craft fan window machining, shoe polishers, game machine cabinets and panels, mahjong tables, computer tables and auxiliary machining of panel furniture products.

In short, when you want to buy CNC machines for woodworking, do not just pay attention to the wood CNC machine price, the right CNC wood router is the most important.

Very good article with illustrations. As a newbie I got some birds eye view of CNC machines for woodworking. I wonder if there is a machine that can also work on metal. I have set up an office and furniture making factory in Bangladesh. Often we get customers who prefer Victorian/Classic, mid-century, mixed style bedroom and living room furniture. Isnt a 3-axis single spindle model good enough? Or any other suggestion? Will appreciate.
